Dr. Geetika Vashisth,
Parashar Foundation (ORGAN India) New Delhi – TCTP Ahmedabad, September 2018
It was an enriching experience to attend the training course for transplant coordinators organized by MOHAN foundation at Ahmedabad. The course proved to be helpful in getting both theoretical as well as practical knowledge about organ donation, organ transplant and the role of coordinator. The distribution of topics and content was well planned. Sessions by transplant doctors and experts helped learning more about the basic technical topics.
Session on ethics was nicely covered as the topic of organ donation is really sensitive and requisites certain approach. Other key elements were interactive sessions giving opportunity to know more about other participants and the work as well as challenges faced by a transplant coordinator. Case studies presented during the course were helpful and motivating too to decide our approach going forward. I really liked the role play giving practical training on how to approach a grieving family to discuss organ donation. It was one interesting course and would love to come again for it as I am sure there will be more to learn every time. I would request course organizers to include more interactive sessions including role plays, everyday struggles of a coordinator to prepare them more for the times when things are not so favourable. And more time should be given to ethics which I think can be discussed maybe on the second day of the course before getting into technical know-how. Thanks for organizing this course. Looking forward to attend another in future. :).
